Question 1

What is Theatre of the Oppressed and how does it work?

Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) is a participatory drama methodology developed by Augusto Boal. Rather than passive performance, participants become 'spect-actors' — actively exploring real-life situations, power dynamics, and social issues through structured drama exercises. Our facilitators guide groups through activities that build empathy, critical thinking, and practical problem-solving skills in a safe, creative environment.

What age groups do your workshops cater for?

Our workshops for young people are designed for ages 11–25. We tailor the content, language, and activities to suit the specific group — whether that's Year 7 students, sixth-formers, or young adults in community settings. Our CPD sessions are for professionals of all ages working in education, youth work, or support roles.

Question 3

How long does a typical workshop or programme last?

Single workshops run for 90 minutes to a full day depending on the programme. Our bespoke inclusion programmes are typically delivered across multiple sessions — usually 4 to 8 weeks — to allow for deeper exploration and lasting impact. CPD sessions for professionals are usually half-day or full-day. We're happy to adapt timings to fit your timetable.

Question 4

Can programmes be delivered in schools, colleges, or community venues?

Accepted Answer

Yes — we come to you. We deliver in schools, colleges, pupil referral units, youth clubs, community centres, and other settings across Greater Manchester and beyond. All we need is a suitable space with enough room for participants to move around. We bring all the materials and resources needed.

Question 5

Do you work with young people with SEND or additional needs?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely — inclusion is at the heart of everything we do. Our programmes are designed to be accessible and adaptable for young people with a wide range of needs, including autism, ADHD, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties, and learning disabilities. We work closely with your staff to understand individual needs and adjust our approach accordingly.

We're a small organisation with a limited budget — can you still help us?

Accepted Answer

We understand that budgets are tight, especially in the voluntary and community sector. We offer flexible pricing and can discuss what's possible within your budget. We also have experience supporting organisations to access external funding for our programmes — get in touch and we'll explore the options together.

Question 7

Do you work outside Greater Manchester?

Accepted Answer

Our base is in Whitefield, Greater Manchester, and most of our work is in the North West. However, we do take on projects further afield for the right opportunity. Travel costs may apply for venues outside Greater Manchester — please contact us to discuss your location and we'll do our best to make it work.

How do I book a workshop or programme?

Accepted Answer

The easiest way is to contact us directly by phone or email and we'll arrange everything together. For bespoke programmes, we recommend starting with a free initial consultation so we can understand your needs and design the right approach.

Question 9

How far in advance do I need to book?

Accepted Answer

We recommend booking at least two to four weeks in advance for single workshops, and six to eight weeks for bespoke multi-session programmes. This gives us time to plan, prepare materials, and liaise with your team. That said, if you have an urgent need, do get in touch — we'll always try to accommodate where we can.

Question 10

What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

We understand that plans change. Please give us as much notice as possible — ideally at least five working days. Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice may incur a charge. Question 11

What do participants need to bring or prepare?

Accepted Answer

Nothing special — just comfortable clothing that allows for movement, and an open mind! We provide all materials, resources, and any props needed for the session. For online or hybrid sessions, participants will need a device with a camera and microphone and a quiet space to join from.

Question 12

How much do your programmes cost?

Accepted Answer

Costs vary depending on the type of programme, number of sessions, group size, and location. We provide bespoke quotes for each project. As a guide, single workshops start from £350, and multi-session programmes are priced on request. We also offer reduced rates for schools and charities in areas of high deprivation. Question 13

Can our organisation apply for funding to cover the cost?

Accepted Answer

Yes — many of our clients use external funding to commission our work. We have experience supporting applications to funders such as the National Lottery Community Fund, local authority grants, and charitable trusts. We can provide supporting information, impact data, and letters of support for funding bids. Get in touch to discuss what might be available for your project.

Do you offer free taster sessions?

We offer a free 30-minute initial consultation (bookable online) to discuss your needs and explore how we can help. For schools and organisations considering a longer programme, we may be able to arrange a short taster activity — please contact us to discuss this possibility.
